A special Council meeting was held on May 16, 2016, for Niagara-on-the-Lake Energy Inc.'s Annual General Meeting.  Council received a presentation from the President and adopted Niagara-on-the-Lake Energy Inc.'s 2015 Financial Statements and approved the appointment of its Board of Directors.

Town Council welcomed Milena Avramovic at the May 16, 2016, Council meeting and officially appointed Milena as Chief Administrative Officer.

Milena originally joined the Town in 2011 as the Director of Community & Development Services, and in 2013, accepted the CAO position with the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands.  Milena has now returned to Niagara-on-the-Lake as CAO.

The Town's Communities in Bloom (CIB) Committee officially launched its 2016 program at the NOTL Library Garden on Monday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m.  Joined by Lord Mayor Darte, Council members, and Town staff, the CIB Committee announced a number of planned projects and activities​ for this year's national competition. At its May 16, 2016, meeting, Town Council approved:

Staff's recommendation to not approve the Zoning By-law amendment for 117 Regent Street as it is not consistent with the Town's Official Plan.

A Zoning By-law Amendment for the "Settler's Landing" Subdivision located at Harvest Drive.

A Plan of Subdivision for 793 Warner Road, Collection 8.

Tender of $225,344 from Archer Truck Services for the purchase of a new 2016 International Workstar with Viking side tilt sander unit and snow/wing equipment.

A municipal Park and Pedal Program in which visitors with bicycles will be encouraged to park at participating "Park 'n' Pedal" host locations and tour wineries, businesses, and attractions by bicycle rather than car.

A one-time discretionary grant of $5,000 to the Niagara Historical Society & Museum towards the 2016 Niagara Polo event on September 10.

Permission for Canada Day celebration activities on July 1, 2016, hosted by the NOTL Rotary Club at Simcoe Park and The Friends of Fort George's cake walk and fireworks display.

  NIAGARA ICEDOGS FLAG RAISING - Lord Mayor Pat Darte, Councillors Betty Disero and Martin Mazza, and Fire Chief Alex Burbidge raised the Niagara IceDogs flag at the Town Municipal Offices on May 5 to show support for the Ontario Hockey League's IceDogs during the 2016 Championship Finals.  
BIKE SAFETY RODEO FOR MIGRANT WORKERS - The Niagara-on-the-Lake Safety Committee, in partnership with the Niagara Regional Police, will host its Annual Bike Safety Rodeo for Migrant Workers on Sunday, May 29, from 1:00 - 6:00 pm at the Virgil Arena.  The event will include bike safety training, bike repairs, a light barbeque, prizes and entertainment.
LIVE LEARN JAZZ - The Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library and TD Niagara Jazz Festival presents "Live Learn Jazz" on June 1, July 6, and July 27. Experience great live jazz with talented musicians and learn more about the music they create.  Visit for tickets and event details.
NIAGARA HISTORICAL SOCIETY & MUSEUM - In celebration of 120 years of collecting and contributing to the preservation of local history, the Museum is hosting special lecture series on the third Thursday of each month until September and has a feature exhibition titled "Janet’s Gems,” which highlights the Museum's founder Janet Carnochan.
